When looking for a "second opinion" on your designs, are you looking for one that falls into your target audience?

Believe me, I get it; this design project is important to you, and you want to share it with the important people in your life. You can't help but seek a second opinion from your partner / mother / daughter / colleague / barista - anyone who might help you look at it in a different way.

But does their opinion ~ actually ~ matter? As in, are they the ones that are going to be buying what you're selling?

If not, I'm not saying you shouldn't still ask, but it's important to take that opinion with a grain of salt. After all, if they're not your target audience, whatever has been designed wasn't designed for them.

Since I believe in strategic human-first design, everything I create is created with your target audience in mind! 🤷 And, I'm sorry, but that probably doesn't include Cathy from Accounting (sorry to Cathy of course, I love what you've done with your hair!)

My wonky darlings 💫 This year I took up potter

My wonky darlings 💫

This year I took up pottery to cultivate creativity away from my computer screen. When you have a creative job, many creative endeavours (as enjoyable as they are), tend to end up feeling like an extension of the workday.

So a hobby that was all hands, and no screen was exactly what I needed (plus I get to fill my home and gift my friends with cute wonky darlings!).

And a hobby like pottery has had some added benefits that have made me a better designer and a better creative.

Pottery has helped to challenge my perfectionism and taught me to love my achievements and creations for what they are (flaws and all). I've learnt to push experimentation with style, techniques, colours and textures to discover what works and what doesn't. I've learnt to trust the process and to have patience with myself when I'm not magically good at something on the very first try.

And of course, I've learnt that is actually ok (and fun!) to not be good at something - and to just create for fun and for mindfulness and to admire the wonkiness in all its glory!

I ended up missing the deadline for this one because I decided to have the weekend off (!!), but I still thought it deserved a place on the feed.

My favourite bit is probably the subtle bubble shape of the 'O', and the fresh adaptive colour palettes based on the flavour of the brew 🤌
